About Counter-Strike 1.6
Counter-Strike is Valve's round-based team shooter. Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists buy weapons with the money they earn each round, then fight to plant or defuse the bomb, rescue hostages or escort a VIP. Once you're down, you wait for the next round, so every life counts.
It began as a Half-Life mod by Minh Le and Jess Cliffe, and Valve released it as a full game in November 2000. Version 1.6 launched alongside the Steam client in September 2003, and Valve brought the game to macOS and Linux in February 2013.
Valve has kept it updated: in November 2023 Counter-Strike gained many of the engine features from the Half-Life 25th Anniversary update, and the Half-Life Dedicated Server it runs on was updated with the latest server code. The latest update came in December 2023.

How do I change my server settings?▾
Open Configuration Files in the Gamepanel and edit cstrike/server.cfg in the Configuration Editor. Our server configuration guide explains each setting, from round time and start money to friendly fire and the C4 timer.
Can I add custom maps?▾
Yes. Upload them with the File Manager or by FTP or SFTP; our file access guide has the details. Fast Redirect is set up automatically: press the button in the Gamepanel to upload your custom files to the web server, so players download them quickly.
Can players with a non-Steam copy join?▾
No. We don't support cracked or counterfeit versions of the game. Players need Counter-Strike on Steam.
Is my server kept up to date?▾
Yes. Valve last updated Counter-Strike in December 2023, and you can update the server yourself at any time with one click (Steam Update guide), so it stays on the same version as your players.
What's the difference between the plans?▾
