Into the Jungle: Rust’s Tropical Biome Update

Last Updated: June 12, 2025By

From tree climbing and vine swinging to surviving tiger attacks – explore all the game-changing features in Rust’s lush new environment

Dive into Rust’s most immersive biome update featuring a dense tropical jungle packed with vertical gameplay mechanics. Scale towering trees, swing across vine networks, and navigate dangerous terrain filled with aggressive tigers and lurking crocodiles. This massive expansion introduces primitive weapons including boomerangs and blowpipes, mysterious new monuments to explore, and completely reimagined survival mechanics that will challenge even veteran players.

What’s New?

Jungle Biome

This lush tropical environment spans part of the temperate coastal spawn areas, featuring flatter terrain, dense river networks, and thick vegetation perfect for stealth gameplay.

New Flora & Exploration: The jungle showcases diverse plant life including bromeliads, monstera bushes, arrowroot undergrowth, and towering trees like jungle palms and trumpet trees. Most impressive are the massive climbable kapok trees that enable vertical movement and vine swinging mechanics.

Gameplay Impact: The dense foliage creates new tactical opportunities – ambush enemies from hidden positions or use the cover to avoid dangerous predators lurking throughout the biome. Despite the challenging terrain, full base building remains available.

Perfect for new and veteran players looking to experience fresh survival mechanics in Rust’s most atmospheric biome yet.

Vine Swinging

Vine Climbing & Swinging Mechanics: The jungle features climbable vine-covered trees that offer elevated vantage points and branch-to-branch traversal. Interactive vines let you swing across significant distances without touching the ground, creating a new layer of vertical gameplay.

Team Coordination Required: Unlike ziplines, vines are single-use and must be thrown back to teammates for group travel. They also provide quick, silent descent to the jungle floor.

Resource Management: Vine trees can be harvested for wood but leave invulnerable stumps that respawn over time, ensuring the biome’s traversal mechanics remain intact.

Jungle Remnants

You’ll find old stone buildings hidden in the thick jungle. The Jungle Ziggurat is a big stone tower, and there are other small ruins scattered around from people who lived here long ago.

Jungle Ruins are great places to stop and search. These old buildings have basic loot and sometimes extra surprises hidden in the overgrown stones—perfect for a quick supply run.

New Weapons

Boomerang – The Boomerang is a new throwing weapon that comes back to you after each throw. It follows the same path every time, so you can learn exactly where it will go. You can also use it as a close-range weapon if enemies get too close.

Blowpipe – The Blowpipe is a quiet weapon that shoots different types of darts:

  • Wood Dart – Basic dart that does light damage
  • Scatter Dart – Shoots multiple small darts at once, good for close fights
  • Incapacitate Dart – Slows enemies down and makes it hard for them to see
  • Radiation Dart – Gives enemies radiation damage that gets worse over time

The Blowpipe is cheap to make and very quiet, making it perfect for sneak attacks.

New Animals

The jungle looks peaceful, but watch out—dangerous animals are hiding everywhere.

Tigers are the most deadly animals in Rust. They sneak up very slowly from behind and only attack when they know they can kill you. Look away for just a second and you’re dead. The game gives you three different hints when a tiger is following you. Pay attention and you might spot them before it’s too late.

Watch for orange and black stripes, but also keep an eye out for the rare black panther that’s much harder to see.

There’s a secret trick to deal with tigers and panthers—you’ll have to figure it out yourself!

Crocodiles live in the deeper jungle rivers. That log floating in the water might not be a log at all. If tigers are the deadliest, crocodiles are the toughest. They look slow but don’t be fooled.

Leave crocodiles alone and they’ll leave you alone. But if you mess with them, you’ll regret it. Like other animals, crocodiles have a hidden weakness if you know what to look for.

Snakes are hard to spot hiding in the leaves. Their poison bite slows you down, but listen for their hissing sound—that’s your warning they’re about to strike! Jump quickly after you hear the hiss and you can avoid getting bitten.

When you kill snakes, you can get Snake Venom from them. This venom is used to make poison darts for the new blowpipe weapon.
