How to Install RedLoader & Mods (Client + Dedicated Server)
Step 1 – Set up the server
Create your dedicated server with no mods installed.
Start the server and join it once to confirm it works correctly.
Shut the server down.
Step 2 – Download RedLoader
Download the latest RedLoader release (currently v0.8.6):
https://github.com/ToniMacaroni/RedLoader/releases/tag/0.8.6
Step 3 – Install RedLoader (Game Client)
Extract the contents of redloader.zip into your main game directory. Example: C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sons Of The Forest. The _RedLoader folder must be in the same directory as: SonsOfTheForest.exe
Step 4 – Install Mods (Game Client)
After installing RedLoader, a Mods folder will be created in the game directory.
Download mods from: https://sotf-mods.com/mods
Each mod usually contains: A folder and a .dll file, Copy both items into the Mods folder.
Step 5 – Verify Mods in Game
Launch the game through Steam. The RedLoader mod manager should appear. On the main menu, confirm it shows how many mods are loaded. Once confirmed, exit the game.
Step 6 – Install RedLoader on the Dedicated Server
Open your server FTP.
Navigate to the server root directory (the first folder with the IP and port).
The _RedLoader folder must be in the same directory as: SonsOfTheForestDS_Data folder
Extract the contents of redloader.zip into this folder, the same way you did for the game client. streight into your server directory.
Step 7 – Copy Mods to the Server
Copy the Mods folder from your game directory. Paste it into the Mods folder created on the server by RedLoader.
Important Notes!
All players must have the exact same mods installed to join the server.
