Game rules allow you to change the gameplay of your Minecraft server to suit your desires. This could range from turning PvP off all the way to modifying the amount of people who must be sleeping for the night to pass.

Please be aware you must be a server operator in order to use game rule commands.
(To set yourself as an operator follow this guide: How to OP a player)

The syntax is, /gamerule <rule> [<value>] where <rule> is the name of the game rule and <value> is an allowed value, which depends on the type of the game rule. The types are boolean (where the allowed values are either true or false) and integer (where any whole number can be entered).

Game rules can be changed either in-game via the game chat, or via your server's Web Console.

Changing game rules via the Web Console:

  1. Find the gamerule you want to change from the table below.
  2. Open your server's Web Console.
  3. Type in the command, in this example we are turning fall damage off so the command we are using is /gamerule fallDamage false
  4. The Web Console will respond to the command as seen in the image below:

Changing game rules via the in-game chat:

  1. Find the gamerule you want to change from the table below.
  2. Log into your server.
  3. Type in the command, in this example we will be making it so player's respawn instantly without showing the death screen using the doImmediateRespawn command.
  4. The game will respond to the command as seen in the image below:
