Game progress such as inventory and skills is stored within your character. Therefore, you can take your character (and it's progress) between servers and worlds; although, it also means that if it gets corrupted, you can lose all of your progress.
As Valheim is in early access, it’s possible that your Character Data may get corrupted. This guide will explain how to make a backup of it, so that if character corruption ever occurs, you can easily restore it.
How to back up Valheim Characters
- Navigate to the
C:\Users\<PCUsername>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\charactersfolder on your computer. - Backup the contents of this folder somewhere safe on your PC
How to restore Valheim Characters
- Locate the backup you've made previously of your Valheim characters
- Copy the contents of the folder into the characters folder located at
C:\Users\<PCUsername>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters
