There are many reasons you may want to back up your server to your PC; you may want to cancel your server because you aren't playing games at the moment and want to return later with the ability to continue your current save, you may just want to back up your server to your PC for additional peace-of-mind. Regardless of the reason, this guide will take you through all steps of the process.

    1. Stop your server.

    2. Connect to your server using FTP by following this guide: Accessing your files via FTP

    3. Create a folder on your PC to store the save in. In this example it's named "Backups"

    4. Locate the save folder, now this will be different per game so if you're unsure of the save folder, and it's location please submit a support ticket from the client area of your account, and we will let you know both.

In this example, it's a 7 Days to Die server we're backing up so the save folder we're looking for is named "Saves" - as shown in the image below.

    5. Drag and drop the Save folder to the backup folder you created in step 3 as shown in the below image

    6. The FTP transfer of the save folder from your server to your PC will now begin, the length of time it takes to download the save to your PC will depend on the size of the save and your internet connection's download speed.

    7. Once the transfer has completed, you can double-check that the save is 100% correct on your PC by comparing the total file size of the save folder on the server to the total file size of the save folder on your PC - as displayed in the image below

    8. All done! You've successfully backed up your server's save to your PC.

Please note: This guide is based on using FileZilla Client as your FTP software, if you choose to use a different FTP software, the process should be incredibly similar (Connect → Locate Save → Transfer to PC) but the individual steps may differ.

Please note: If you decide to take multiple backups, make sure the name is different for each backup on your PC, so you know which is which.
